AIS-140 for India

AIS-140 GPS Tracking Platform for Indian Trucks, Buses and Fleets

In India, public service vehicles and national permit goods vehicles must carry an AIS-140 certified vehicle location tracking device (VLTD) with an emergency button. The device sends data to the state transport server for compliance. We set up your own tracking platform on the same device, so you and your customers get live tracking, alerts and reports for every truck, bus and vehicle.

What's included

AIS-140 devices supported

Traccar supports the AIS-140 protocol and Indian devices such as iTriangle, Atlanta Systems, TranSync and many Concox, Teltonika and other trackers used in India.

Compliance plus your own platform

The device keeps reporting to the state government server for compliance, and also reports to your own platform through its second server setting.

Panic button alerts

Emergency button presses appear as instant alarms on your dashboard and apps, with the vehicle position, so your control room can act fast.

Truck and fleet reports

Geofences and route alerts

Alerts when a truck enters or leaves a depot, warehouse, customer site or state border, or leaves its planned route.

Frequently asked questions

Which vehicles need AIS-140 in India?

Under the central motor vehicle rules, public service vehicles such as buses, school buses and taxis, and national permit goods vehicles, must be fitted with an AIS-140 tracking device with an emergency button. Rules and deadlines are enforced by each state, so check with your state transport department for your vehicle type.

Is Traccar AIS-140 certified?

AIS-140 certification applies to the tracking device, which must be approved by a testing agency such as ARAI or ICAT and registered with the state backend by its supplier. Traccar is the tracking platform you run alongside it for your own fleet management.

Can one AIS-140 device report to two servers?

Most AIS-140 devices can send data to the government server and to a second server for the fleet owner. We help you configure the second server address with your device supplier.

Which AIS-140 devices work with Traccar?

Traccar supports the AIS-140 protocol, TranSync AIS-140, iTriangle and Atlanta Systems devices, and more than 2,000 tracker models in total. See our supported GPS devices list, or send us your model and we will confirm.

Can I use normal GPS trackers for vehicles that do not need AIS-140?

Yes. Private cars, company vehicles, bikes and assets can use any supported tracker, such as Concox, Teltonika or Coban devices, on the same platform.

How much does it cost?

You can start with the $249 white-label Traccar platform package, which includes your branded platform and app. Larger setups get a clear quote based on your fleet size.
